Videos

Sometimes a video helps to explain details of the construction, movement or form of a piece better than any other medium. The following are a small selection of videos taken over the years when I felt that a video would help. The first few illustrate how gauntlets work. The final few provide a full rotation view of a piece. This can often help to really understand the shape of a piece.

A high speed connection is necessary to see these videos.

A video of the movement of a part of a gauntlet. This shows how it opens and closes and the use of sliding rivets in the finger plates.
A video of the movement of a gauntlet. This shows how a German Gothic mitten really works.
A video of the movement of a gauntlet. This shows how gauntlet articulations really should work. All of the plates slide over each other cleanly and the pieces all move effortlessly.
A video showing measurements of the thickness of the same gauntlet. All measurements represent a maximal possible thickness, and in each case the smallest most closely approximates the correct thickness. This is because any angle in the gauge will exaggerate the measurement, and I may not have been exactly perpendicular at any time on a particular measurement. Thanks to Robert Putnam for taking the video and Robert MacPherson for designing and building the deep throat gauge. This was taken at The Forging 2019 in Boonville, NC.
